TFI FRIDAY: June 11th, 1999
This was to be Aerosmith's second appearance at Riverside Studios; the home of Channel 4 TV's TFI Friday (first in 1997) The band rehearsed for about 40 minutes before the show ensuring the audio and visual delivery of Pink was just so. To finish off they started off with I Don't Want To Miss A Thing and cut into a blistering version of Train Kept A Rollin' . After some delays and other band practices (Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Garbage) it was 1-2-3 Action!, and they began rolling the cameras.
The host, Chris Evans interviewed Steven and Joe and asked a range of question including the Stones (mid-week Stones club gig and Steven hitting the notes Jagger couldn't reach, and what Stones song would have liked to have done if the Stones hadn't done it: Street Fighting Man, Honky Tonk Woman), where they saw themselves on a bill with the legends of rock (Joe detailed Elvis would headline and Steven said then Aerosmith, Beatles etc.), Wembley Toxic Twin Towers Ball, Jimmy Page Benefit, etc. They also did a section to see what Steven could fit in his mouth and one orange later.
Then the live performance which was electric with the added atmosphere of a small frenzied audience. Unfortunately due to the limitations of the program slot, they cut a majority of IDWTMAT and Train from the broadcast. There was a panic at the end as one of Steven's sentimental gigs went missing during the show and despite a reward being offer we expected it was the last we would see of that. Luckily the ring had dropped down a grill on stage right and onto the floor below.
June 18th: The next show, they reported that 42 people had rang in and complained that they cut the IDWTMAT/Train medley and TFI showed this song in its entirity. Well done TFI!!
