OUT OF THE ORDINARY
The purpose of this section is to detail album releases that were other than the standard format American releases. It will cover special promos, album cover changes, international differences and special limited editions.
During their Geffen days, extra tracks would appear on the International releases. In the 60s, UK bands such as the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds etc, used to put additional tracks on their American releases so Aerosmith sort of paying back the idea.
There has also been a trend in Japan, since Permanent Vacation, to add an additional track to make it different from the American release so the Japanese audience will buy the country release and not cheaper imports. Japanese releases also come with a lyric sheet of the album's lyrics in English and Japanese.

| Released: December 1985 / August 1987 | |
![]() |
Done With Mirrors originally appeared on vinyl and cassette. The original album cover (back and front) was mirrored, and with the absence of the famous Aerosmith logo, it lacked promotion foresight being it was a comeback album. The cassette version also contained an additional track "Darkness" which later also appeared on the CD. |
| "Permanent Vacation" was standard globally. In Japan in 1988 (when Aerosmith toured for the first time in 11 years), an EP was released called "Vacation Club" which offered some extra remixes and also "Once Is Enough" (Supa). | |
![]() |
A special
Australian CD series called "Back 2 Back"
released "Done With Mirrors" and
"Permanent Vacation" in one set (left). What is unusual in the case of "Done With Mirrors" is that it does not have "Darkness" on it (GEFD 24550). |

| Nine Lives | |
| Released: March 1998 | |

The original cover was cat like figure amongst numerous cobras. The images of Hindu gods on the cover spirtually violated Amercian Hare Krishna devotees, who tried to get the album banned. The group eventually licensed the image from the sect so as someone put it, if you're a Hare Krishna in the USA, your God belongs to Aerosmith! In the meantime, the album cover was changed to a cat on a spinning wheel which happened in the USA in Summer 1997 (Japan in 1998 and Europe, March 1999). |
![]() |
![]() In America, a special CD pressing was made which removed the images of sex positons around the edge of the CD (so it could be marketed at outlets such as WalMart etc). |
| The album (14 tracks) was released international a week before that in the USA and carried an extra track; the Joe Perry sung tune, "Falling Off" (Perry/Tyler/Frederiksen) which appears on the album between Pink and Attitude Adjustment. | |
| The Japanese version of the album (15 tracks) had a further additional track "Fall Together" (Tyler/Hudson/Wells/Grakal) which came after "Falling Off" (Sony Records SRCS 8263). | |
| To mark the Japanese 1998 tour, Sony Records in Japan, released a special gatefold edition of Nine Lives which also carried the Box of Fire bonus disc and a booklet of photos and tour information (Sony Records SRCS 8610-1) 25/2/98. | |
| In March 1999, after the massive success of "I Don't To Miss A Thing" in Europe and prior to a Summer European tour, Columbia re-issued Nine Lives with "I Don't To Miss A Thing" added at the end of the album (Columbia COL485020 3, UK). | |
| From April 1999 in Australia, the full cd single, (which spent a record breaking 10 weeks at No1 in late 98), including all four tracks (I Don't Want To Miss A Thing album version and rock version, Taste Of India rock mix, and Animal Crackers) was packaged as a bonus disc within Aerosmith's Nine Lives album (Sony 494398, 12/4/99) | |

Official Releases?
The following titles have been noted on various online retail outlets in Russia and other ex-Eastern Block countries. Many are well know for their Black Markets and whilst they also list official Aerosmith titles, there are a number not available elsewhere. No label information is detailed. Their legitimacy is questioned given some releases contain both Geffen and Columbia material. Very little is known about these apart from the titles as listed below although most seem to be compilations:
