Appearance in Harrods: 8th June, 1999

Various rumours started to circulate during the day that the band had postponed their appearance but these was unfounded. They had originally planned to play a couple of numbers in the store but ran into red tape as you have to apply for a licence etc.

The main thrust of the appearance was a press conference which I was informed from Sony UK was put together by HK Management. Harrods is a very prestigious Department store, well known throughout the world (celebrating its 150th year). It is owned by Al Fayed who lost his son a couple of years back in the fatal automobile accident in Paris where Princess Di also lost her life.

The band apparently arrived in a Pink Carriage and were greeted by Al Fayed. On the fourth floor in the Georgian Room, local, National and world press, rock press and entertainment organisations (MTV, VH1) awaited the conference. Amongst tea and coffee, various delightful snacks, complimentary press packs and copies of the Walk This Way autobiography, Aerosmith videos rotated on two large flat screen TVs : I Don't Want To Miss A Thing, Pink and Full Circle (there was also an additional live Pink video, with Joe playing a very smart Rickenbacker guitar. This maybe the video they are going to use to promote the UK Pink re-issue which is released next Monday).

The band appeared at 3:53 and handled a wide range of musical/Aero-related (RUN DMC, Disney, Space Shuttle, Rolling Stones), personal and family (Liv, Adrian) questions for about 40 minutes (to be expanded...). The band was in high spirits and looked very well, having flown from Boston on Sunday.

After the press conference and a quick bite to eat, the band did number of personal interviews/photo shots and then greeted the 300+ fans that had patiently waited for 4+ hours to meet their idols and get various articles autographed. During the interview it was hinted that once the band wrapped up, they would be going onto a small club gig in Shepherd's Bush to see the Rolling Stones perform (The Stones and Sheryl Crow are playing Wembley Stadium at the weekend).

Aerosmith kick off the European Tour on the 10th in Stockholm but return to the UK on the 11th to appear on Channel 4 TV's TFI Friday for a Steven Tyler interview and a band performance.

Thanks to my brother Mark, for taking the following Press Conference photos.
